The Site
BooksVersusMovies.com is a comparison site for people who take both books and films seriously. We review adaptations — not as news items or listicles, but as genuine critical comparisons. Each review answers three questions: which version is better, whether to read the book first, and what the adaptation gets right or wrong.
We pick a side. If the book is better, we say so and explain why. If the film is better, we say that too. "Both have their merits" is not a verdict — it's an evasion. The point of this site is to give you a real answer so you can make an informed choice about how to spend your time.
The Approach
Every comparison on this site is built around a specific argument. We read the book and watched the film — sometimes multiple times — before writing. The differences we identify are structural, not superficial. We're interested in what each medium can do that the other can't, and in what gets lost or gained in translation.
The site currently covers 162 book-to-film and book-to-series comparisons across literary fiction, thriller, science fiction, romance, historical fiction, memoir, and more. We add new comparisons regularly, prioritising recent releases and anticipated adaptations.
